Portable Shortwave Radio
Sony ICF-SW7600GR AM/FM Shortwave World Band Receiver I researched Grundig G5/Eton E5 (rebadged Kaito 1103 / Degen 1106) but selected Sony ICF-SW7600GR for the following reasons: - Grundig/Eton E5 are made in China Sony ICF-SW7600GR is still made in Japan - Grundig/Eton users have complained that the AC wall-art causes hum in their E5 - Grundig/Eton E5 "sucks batteries dry very quickly" If you decide to buy Sony ICF-SW7600GR know that: 1) it doesn't come with AC adapter - it's not a problem for me as I bought this radio for portable use - carrying around with me from room to room or outside so having a power adapter is not important to me but I guess if you wanted to put this radio to your bedside and use it as an alarm then it would make sense to have AC adapter 2) the sound quality is not that great - it's more midrange and lacking bass, but for me it's not a Hi-Fi piece but more of an emergency equipment so I had to put sound quality below the battery life Bottom line (for me anyway): Want good sound - get Grundig/Eton E5 Want battery life - get Sony ICF-SW7600GR Couple of good reviews of both Sony and Grundig/Eaton: Review Eton E5 Reviews Summary for Sony World Band Receiver ICF-SW7600GR Reviews Summary for ETON E5 with SSB Eton E5 AM/FM Shortwave Radio Sony ICF-SW7600GR AM/FM Shortwave World Band Receiver
