As I mentioned in my "review" of:

   Bear Grylls New Knife

I am a huge fan of Man vs Wild show on Discovery channel and I've always
wondered what is the water bottle that Bear Grylls uses when filming his
survival episodes.

His water bottle (as Bear Grylls calls it) is in a form of Canteen with a metal
Cup that sits flush with the bottle. He regularly uses this cup to boil water
and sometimes to cook a meal - usually his meals are raw (just kidding).

I truly believe that this is the most functional form for a water bottle as it
saves you precious space with it's incorporated cup to boil water in. It
reminds me of the Soviet Block military Canteens that I've had all my life back
in Russia and I know how useful they were in the outdoors.

My quick search on Amazon revealed couple of close matched products but not the
exact one I was looking for:

G I Spec Stainless Steel Canteen Cup
1 Quart Plastic Canteen Bladder

UPDATE:

I think I finally found the exact canteen and it's cup

I just purchased this canteen and cup and I'm disappointed to say the cup is
plastic. Anyone know where I can get a metal cup for this British canteen?

I bought it from campsmarter.com (about $13). I found the metal cup (Crusader
Canteen Cup) at http://www.cardinalg...er-cup-canteen.html. I hope
it fits the canteen. The canteen is made by OSPREY (stock No975-6665 or PF21510)

There's a lot of these plastic ones around - there's also aluminium version and
a teflon coated one - but the one to get is the Steel one without a doubt! Hard
to find but you can do it - basically you'll have to look at an army surplus
shop, not a camping store - or look on ebay.

See my post about this here
http://pathofthepadd...ader-army-issue-mug/

I've got one and the first post here is right: it is the most functional choice
- but then with Bear Grylls minimalism you can imagine he wouldn't take
anything else - the only gear he ever carries is one of these mugs, the
matching water bottle and yes that amazingly expensive knife, although it can
cut through huge treestumps or Skunks fur it appears! ;-)

Hi,
I purchased the NATO Waterbottle and crusader cup a couple of weeks a ago.
Great stuff. But: Anybody got an idea on how to fix the bottle to the belt or
(as Bear seems to use it) fit on a strap to hang it over the shoulder?

Hi - great choice you wont regret it - I just got back from 2 days wild camping
with just the crusader for all cooking etc.

OK so yes I've seen that: he seems to use a piece of paracord - takes it over
one shoulder, then round the waist aswell which secures it as he leaps the
grand canyon and leaps over approching grizzly bears ;-) - I'll be trying
myself it but no reason that won't work I think? (not the grizzly jumps, I mean
the paracord bit...!)

Post here if you can get it to work ok?

Thanks. I'll give it a try. Have you tried fixing the bottle to a belt?

Hey Gentlemen,

I've had my bottle and cut for about 2 years now. I use it about 2 to 3 times a
week... Great bottle. If you whatch closely, Bear uses black duct tape to
secure the paracord around the bottle. He takes the paracord by the end and
makes a loop, then makes another loop right below the first one , then puts it
through the 1st loop. You continue to repeat the process until you have a long
braided strand to secure to the bottle with the black duct tape and enough to
go around your shoulder and waist.
